NEXT OPEN HOUSE

April 19, 2017 – 6:00 – 8:00 PM

Western Tech High School
100 Kenwood Ave.
Catonsville MD, 21228

Crew 2013 holds weekly meetings and monthly events that are open to any interested youth and adults! We meet weekly from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at Western Tech High School in Catonsville, Maryland. Our program focuses on a wide array of interests, including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Leadership Development, Community Service, and Outdoor Adventure! Crew 2013 is a unit in the Venturing Program of the Boy Scouts of America, and has a fully-inclusive culture that welcomes all eligible youth and adult leaders.

Please select your age range below to learn more about how your age impacts the program you’ll experience!

If you or your interested youth is 13 years old and has already graduated the 8th grade, please refer to the 14-17 age group!

Venturing in it’s classic sense is designed for youth aged 14 and older. However, Crew 2013 has opted to allow 11-13 year olds to join in the program with the approval of the Crew President (youth leader) and Crew Advisor (adult leader)! Here’s what you need to know:

MATURITY IS IMPORTANT
You won’t be expected to act like an adult – after all this is a youth program – but you should be able to get along with other teens that are older than you! The vast majority of Crew 2013 members are aged 14-20, but don’t let that keep you from joining in the fun!

YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT TO ADVANCE
Although you will be welcomed as an equal member in Crew 2013, the Venturing Program doesn’t permit advancement until you can meet the national program’s joining requirements! Don’t worry though: Crew 2013’s program isn’t focused on Advancement, and you’ll be extra prepared to start ranking up once you turn 14!

PARENTS/GUARDIANS ARE REQUESTED TO JOIN AS WELL
Venturing is designed to be a safe and comfortable environment to experience personal growth and adventure, but due to the age difference between you and a number of our members, we’d like to keep your parents more involved. If this is not possible, please make sure to speak to our Advisor before joining so alternative arrangements can be made.

Now that you know a bit about how your age impacts your spot in the Crew, continue on to check out how you can join!

If you or your interested youth is 13 years old and has already graduated the 8th grade, this also applies to you!

YOU ARE CONSIDERED A YOUTH
Older youth (ages 18-20) are considered “Youth+”. You will experience the same program and be given the same opportunities as your older Crew members, but when it comes time to go camping or spend the night, you will be sharing sleeping quarters with other teens of the same gender and age range as yourself.

YOU ARE CONSIDERED A YOUTH+
You will experience the same program as your younger Crew-mates, but you will hold the same legal responsibility as your advisors and committee. When on trips and outings you will share sleeping quarters with crew members of the same age group and gender as yourself.

YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO TAKE “YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING”
As a legal adult in the Crew, you will register using an adult application. This means that you will be required to take and pass “Youth Protection Training” before we process your application. YPT is a quick, online training that will teach you the duties and responsibilities that you will hold as an adult in a Crew that also involves younger members.

YOU WILL STILL NEED TO PROVIDE EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION
Although you can choose to remain independant of your parents within Crew 2013’s program as an adult, you will still be required to provide contact information for a stable, level-headed adult over the age of  21 to serve as your emergency contact.

YOU ARE CONSIDERED AN ADULT
The Venturing and Crew 2013 Program is not designed for your age group! However, don’t let that stop you from getting involved in the program. As an Advisor, you will be given the opportunity to serve as a mentor to youth and guide them as they develop their own leadership abilities and character. If you would prefer to serve as a Committee Member, you will be involved in ensuring that the structure (membership, budget, property, etc.) of Crew 2013 remains strong.
